Plan ahead for your visit to Thurlestone and make the most of your round with our course map. For a more detailed look at each of the holes, click on the map and see a detailed visual of the 18 holes. You can also read the helpful tips from our resident professional, Peter Laugher, and click on the images below to view an enlarged version.

Hole 1

An intimidating opening drive but there is more room than there appears from the tee, so relax and favour the right side of the fairway to be left with a short pitch up to the green and a chance for birdie. For the long hitter a go at the green may be worth the risk.

Hole 3

This pictutesque short hole needs to be played with care and it is better to be short than long here. The hole itself is slightly below the tee so select your club carefully and play for the front of the green, relying on your putter for par or better.

Hole 5

This is a testing short hole that is rarely played without a breeze in your face. Take enough club and aim just to the left of the pin as the ground slopes from left to right. A par here is always a good score!

Hole 7

Tee shots should favour the left side of the fairway here, especially when the wind is off the sea. The approach shot is all up hill, so take more club than you first think necessary, but keep in mind that anything short of the pin will leave an easier up hill putt or chip as this green slopes steeply from back to front.

Hole 9

Drive along the left side of this fairway using the church tower as an aiming point as the fairway slopes steeply from left to right. The second shot is also better aimed to the left side of the green as there is a bank and a bunker waiting for anything off-line to the right.

Hole 11

From the men's tee, a line just to the left of the marker is ideal for a second shot straight into the green. Ladies should aim straight over the right-hand marker post. The drive is up hill from both tees but good hits will get you to level ground from where the approach should ideally be faded into the right-hand side of the green to leave an opportunity for a birdie.

Hole 13

This is a tough par three even if the wind is helping. Ideally this hole should be played by aiming at the left side of the green with a gentle fade to take the bunkers guarding the right side of the green out of play.

Hole 15

Favour the left side of the fairway from the tee and then your second shot should bisect the space between the trees on the right and the wall on the left. The approach shot is to a long two-tiered green set at an angle to the fairway. Check the position of the pin as it is essential to get your ball on the same tier as the pin for easier putting.

Hole 17

A straight tee shot is required here and with a very long green of 51 yards, it is better to take too much club rather than too little, because all of the trouble is at the front of the green.
