Liz Sharman and Liz Stewart reach the semi finals in this prestigious County knock-out competition

Their first round was played at Torquay against Stover; the next at Dartmouth against Downes Crediton and yesterday the quarter finals were played at Staddon against Tavistock. Liz and Liz had to give 4 shots to an apparently younger, seemingly fit pair, which was daunting from the start. To their delight they finished one up. Liz Stewart explains that Liz Sharman putted amazingly all day. They ended up with 2 putts to win on the 18th hole. Liz Stewart left a 4-5 foot putt  a bit short, leaving Liz Sharman with a longer tap in than she'd asked for to clinch it. But she nailed it! Liz Sharman adds that her young friend got her out of trouble on frequent occasions. 'We were a good team, team and we jigsawed well,' she says.

Whatever happens our plucky pair will be at the presentation. The winners receive the Doris Willes-little Cup, see above. The runners up receive the Doris Willes-Little Runner-Up Trophy first presented in 1949 by Miss M. O. Williams. Then there are 2 semi-finalists' trophies - replica cups presented by Thurlestone's Mrs Betty Ord (nee Dent) in 1987.

Good luck, both of you, in the semi finals.
