Thurlestone v Senior Golfers' Society
The Captain of the Society, which was formed nearly 100 years ago, Richard Excell said the Society’s visit was well over due and it was a privilege for the Society to visit a Club steeped in history set in wonderful surroundings with spectacular panoramic views. Society members from all over the UK came to sample the delights of this 2 day jamboree many of them staying at the Thurlestone Hotel where they and guests enjoyed a splendid dinner hosted by the Grose family on Monday evening. Matches were played on both Monday and Tuesday and although the host Club were victorious it was the immediate camaraderie between the 2 sets of players which was so pleasing to witness. Several of the wives who accompanied their husbands also played and were looked after royally by the Lady Captain Lesley Saffin and other lady members. Due to the unprecedented success of the 2 days it is hoped that this would become an annual fixture in the calendar of both Club and Society.
