Club vs Bigbury (away) - Avon Lantern return match

The men's team were successful at defending their possession of the Avon Lantern after the away match at Bigbury on Sat 28 May.

It was decided before playing the game that the winners of the trophy should be decided by cumulative scores over both the home and away matches. The Bigbury players were each presented with a small gift of a 125 commemorative ball marker from Thurlestone GC in recognition of the long close association between our two clubs.

In the end Thurlestone returned a healthy 5-3 victory on a lovely day in a match which sports a very friendly rivalry. (TGC were already one point ahead after the home match, so a draw would have been sufficient to remain holders).

There were fine wins for Lewis Kendall & Paul Millburn-Fryer, Jim Stewart & Hugh Bodger , Mark Drew & Mike Doyle and David Smyth & Gary Raymond. Fighting halves were earned by Simon Bawden & Harry Cattell and Stewart Barnes & Ken Riley.

We are already looking forward to attempting to retain this iconic trophy next year.
