Tamar cup semifinals

On Sunday, the junior team were in action again, this time in the semi-final of the Tamar Cup at Yelverton against Staddon Heights.

The first three pairings were giving up to 16 shots. The first match with George Messias and Finn Whelan was close all the way round however George dropped a great putt on the 16th to go 2up, however they lost the 17th and went up the 18th still needing a half. Finn missed the green to the right on his approach, but a great up and down got the par required and the first match was won.

The second match was in control early on, with Ethan and Charlie going 2up on the front nine only to be pegged back to all square early on the back. Continual pressure from the Thurlestone pairing meant the match was finally closed out with a great putt from Charlie on the 16th and a par from Ethan on the 17th and the match was won 3 & 1.

The last pairing of Alfie and Toby were struggling a bit in the middle of the round going 2 down, on two occasions, only to fight back strongly, to win on the 17th 2up. This meant that Thurlestone juniors had won the match 3-0 and now await confirmation as to their opponents and the venue, which could be anywhere in Devon or Cornwall.

A reserve match was also played with Ollie Griffiths and Noah Mulligan representing Thurlestone, who both showed the great form they have been in during recent months, closing out their match 4 & 3. Special thanks were given to Yelverton for use of the course, which was in great condition, together with the fantastic welcome received by all players and supporters of both clubs.
